| Flagstaff Arizona Hotel :: Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument | |
Sunset Crater, the youngest volcano on the Colorado plateau is a cinder cone rising 1,000 feet above the surrounding landscape. The volcano's red rim and the dark lava flows seem to have cooled and hardened to a jagged surface only yesterday. As plants return, so do the animals that use them for food and shelter. Exhibits at the sunset crater visitor center discuss volcanoes and earthquakes, with a short film and working seismograph. Visit this incredible place to see nature’s response to a volcanic eruption.
