Interested in an active getaway where you can enjoy the outdoors and get some play time in away from the hotel? Flagstaff is the perfect spot for a variety of winter sports your whole family can participate in!

The Arizona Snowbowl and Flagstaff Nordic Center are perfect locations for alpine and Nordic skiing, respectively. The famous Arizona Snowbowl has 40 runs, 777 skiable acres and six chairlifts, as well as dining options and beautiful scenery. The Nordic Center stands at an elevation of 8,000 feet and offers more than 25 miles of cross-country ski trails. Equipment rentals are available at both locations and private and group lessons are offered throughout the season for children and adults.

If you are looking for less formal activities in the snow, Flagstaff offers several options for playing in the snow. Visit Wing Mountain for sled hills, snowshoe paths and cross-country skiing trails as well as hot beverages and concessions. Wing Mountain is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as long as there is snow on the ground. Check their website to find out if conditions are suitable for snow play.

Just a mile past the Nordic Center is Crowley Pit, a play area offering several sledding and tubing hills of various size and steepness. You can purchase sleds, tobaggons and tubes from the Nordic Center, as well as snacks, hot cocoa, coffee and tea after your day in the snow (up until 4 p.m.).

For those who find motorized fun more entertaining, the Kendrick Snowmobile Trail System offers 54 miles of trails just north of Flagstaff. The system passes through the Kendrick Peak and San Francisco Peaks volcanoes and is often visited by dog sledders and cross-country skiers as well as snowmobilers.
