Secrets of the Southwest: ___________ national monument was established on April fool’s day.

Despite it’s being in numerous commercials, movies, books, and photographs, Canyon De Chelly still remains somewhat of an unknown treasure to many people across the country. The Canyon De Chelly, pronounced Shea, was first established as a national monument on April fool’s day of 1931, and is located in Northern Arizona, just miles from Flagstaff. It covers a remarkable 83,840 acres featuring ancient ruins of Indian villages dated as far back as 350 & 1300 AD. De Chelly also possesses an expansive natural beauty unmatched anywhere else in the world, which I guess explains the love affair with cinematographers. For more information on Canyon De Chelly and other Southwestern Secrets visit the Fairfield Inn Hotel Flagstaff, Arizona.
